As a teacher, I always feel the need to have a side hustle. It’s no new secret that teachers don’t seem to be compensated enough for everything we do. I have done so many things while teaching to make a little extra money. Babysitting, selling clothes on Poshmark, tutoring, teaching an after school program. I feel like I’ve done a lot of things in my 14 years of teaching. However, the side hustle I am the most proud of is definitely my TPT/Boom Card Side Hustle.

I started Math Mom Repeat (also see Boom Cards Link) last January. I only work on it during the summer months and on select holidays. Since then, I have made nearly $3,000 on the platforms combined. I do realize that this is nothing compared to some TPT sellers, but I also realize that this is great compared to some! I am beyond blessed that even one person would find my resources valuable enough to use them.

In this blog post, I will be covering.

  • How to start a Boom Card Account
  • Videos/YouTubers that helped me get going in the process
  • Where can you sell and what I currently sell the most of
  • I have a 10% off code for Boom Cards as well if you want to start creating and selling your own.

Getting Started on Boom Cards

Go to Boom Learning’s website. If you sign up using my link, you will receive 10% off your membership.

There are two types of membership: Premium and Publisher.

To be able to sell your Boom Cards you need have a Publisher account. This is a $69.99 price tag for one year. This may be a shocking price; however, I managed to make this back and more by the second month of the year!

Once, you have signed up. All your creation magic will happen under the “Studio” tab. This is where you will create decks, check on how much you’ve made, and answer any questions customers may have left you.

Click on the “Decks” icon.

Select the “New Deck” category. And that’s it! Everything you need is there for you. I will now go into detail on how I make mine.

How I create my Boom Cards

I use Google Slides to each “boom card.” I will link some tutorials that got me started below. The best size dimension I have found to do this is 1400 x 1000 pixels (Create a New Google Slide and then select File–>Page Setup). This is what a title slide may look like:

This title slide is very simple to make. I just added a box element across the slide. I then added the title and some free clipart I found online. Here is an example of one of my content slides:

I then upload these slides when I have the number I want on Boom Cards. I use the fill in the blank option on Boom Cards to allow students to type in their answer. This is the simplest form of a Boom Card. You can also drag and drop items, select multiple choice buttons, etc.

Videos/Youtubers that Helped me Learn Boom Cards

  • It’s all Primary – This is the woman who really helped me learn so much about Boom Cards. She is very open and honest about how she is growing her own Boom Card/TPT business.
  • Play Talk Learn – This is such a helpful channel if you want to elevate your Boom Cards to the next level.

Where can I sell my Boom Cards

I currently only sell my Boom Cards on their platform and my TPT store. However, Boom Learning gives you a link that you can use for any seller platform you wish! Isn’t that awesome!

I currently sell the most of my 6th grade Boom Cards. I do have fewer of these resources overall and I am quickly trying to add more. I feel like if the higher grade level you teach, the less competition there is on Boom Cards, and potentially the more sales.
